Strawberries

All of a sudden, Talea stopped. Fabienne didn't even notice until she'd already walked several paces away. Curious, she stalked back to the market stall that had drawn her human's attention. "What's the matter, gnome friend?" She nudged Talea with her shoulder when she didn't get a timely response.

"I haven't seen strawberries this big since..." Talea shook her head. Some messy strands fell into her eyes. "Not in forever."

Fabienne looked at the red fruits the stall was selling. "These are strawberries?" she asked the stall owner suspiciously.

"The best!" the woman snapped back at her, before she broke into a proud smile. "The very best even! I plucked them myself this morning. Here, miss, try one."

Still unconvinced, Fabienne took the offered fruit. It smelled like the tiny strawberries she knew from the forest. It looked like them, too. But its size... She bit into the fruit. The light pleasant taste flooded her palate. Juice filled her mouth. She hummed in pleasure.

"Here, good woman," she began, already fumbling with her pouch. "How much for enough for the both of us? Three or four pounds should suffice."
